º£½Ç»»ÆÞ’s most iconic historical figures arrived in Westminster on Thursday 11 September to launch Visit Historic º£½Ç»»ÆÞ, a new initiative celebrating the county’s rich heritage.
Travelling in style, King Charles II and Sir Edward Elgar set off from the county in a Morgan Motor Car, while knights from the Battle of Evesham journeyed by Great Western Railway before gathering in Westminster – a fitting stage given Simon de Montfort’s role in shaping the foundations of Parliament.
The event brought º£½Ç»»ÆÞ’s history to life, from dramatic royal escapes and civil war battles to world famous music and industrial landmarks. These moments form the backbone of Visit Historic º£½Ç»»ÆÞ, which will showcase the county’s past across four themes: Royals & Rebels, Democracy, Creatives and Industry.

“London is one of our biggest visitor markets, so it makes perfect sense to launch our heritage initiative in the capital. From º£½Ç»»ÆÞ to Westminster, we’re excited to put our county’s stories centre stage and inspire more people to discover them for themselves.â€
The 18-month focus on heritage follows visitor research showing that º£½Ç»»ÆÞ’s history is often overlooked, despite its national and international importance. Heritage and culture remain among the top reasons people choose to visit the UK, according to VisitEngland. º£½Ç»»ÆÞ is well placed to benefit from this interest and attract new audiences, particularly as the county’s visitor economy has now surpassed £1 billion annually.
The project has been coordinated by a group of local historical and destination experts, but with a fresh twist to encourage and engage new audiences.
To accompany the launch, a light-hearted film has been released, re-imagining º£½Ç»»ÆÞ’s most famous figures in the modern day. Over the coming weeks, people will also be able to spot the adverts across º£½Ç»»ÆÞ and in key locations around London.
